Ou> SPORT.— The chestnut gelding steeplechaser Quilp is Gyivs. old, and wab bred in Napier. He is by " Sator.'' When just coming out the outside of his off hind leg was ripped up by a boar pig, which accident happened on the 2nd May, 1883. On the 21st November, 1883, Quilp ran m the Hurdles and Steeplechase at Cambi idge. He was then, it was said, short of training, and did nothing, but took his jumps fairly. He was ridden by Heaton, of Epsom. On the 2(>th November ho ran at Te Avoha, but did nothing. Heaton again rode him. On the 30th November, at the Piako races, Quilp won the Maiden Plate, ridden by Harrison, and the Hurdle Race, lidden by Fied Goldsmith. On the Ist January, 1884, Quilp won the Hurdles and Steeplechase at Cambridge, ridden by Goldsmith. On the 2(>th of January ult., he won the match with Sportsman, twice iov\nd the Cambridge steeplechase course, and on the 29th January ran second in the hurdles at Te Awamutu, being beaten by Evening Star, who carried 71bs. less weight _____«_»— — i ——
