GISBORNE, Friday.
There was a sharp shock of earthquake at 12.20 p.m., and a very severe one at 4.20 this morning. The latter caused much alarm, as it rang the fire-bell and hotel bells, besides stopping the clocks, and producing a feeling of nausea, like sea-sickness. The direction was apparently rotary, and the shock lasted halfa-minute.
