KIHIKIHI.
Some public spirited gentlemen here are trying to form a debating society. A meeting has been called for Saturday evening next at Andrew's hotel. As this is a matter in which every one should take an interest it is to be hoped there will be a good attendance. There is no doubt that such societies aie much needed in frontier settlements. Few of our young men can get up at a public ireeting and. express their view* on any subject without a great deal of stammering and hesitation, defects entirely owing to want of practice. Debating societies will soon remove the feeling of d.frV'ence and want of confidence experienced by inoit young speakers, and give them confidence besides having the effect of making people read books and study subjects which otherwise would probably have been entirely neglected. As Kihikihi is to be the second town in the province, our sucking orators will do well to prepare for the time when they will have to take part in the councils of the city, when the accumulated wisdom of Waikato will assemble. We have a a demosthenes or two, and a couple of Solons among us, who only want bringing out to make Kihikihi ring with their fame.— (Own Correspondent.)
