THE RAGLAN COAL.
It will bo remembered that some time ago some samples of the coal and iron stone, recently found in the neighbourhood of Raglan, were on view at the office of this paper. Subsequently they weie foi warded to Auckland for analysis, and the following report from the analyst has been received :—: — Anawsis of Coal fuojl the Ka<;lvn District. Fixed carbon. . . 4G-42 Hydro-caibon 4042 WateV . . I 1 - s4 Ash V2!!,,V 2 !!,, Evaporative po-\\ ci l»'o3lbs. Burns with smoky fUme. No caking. Colour of powder, black brown ; that of ash, light brown. The above analysis shows the coal to be a brown coal of medium quality. . . . Owing to pressure of wurk in the lab >iotory, the iron stone sent foi analysis h.b not yet been dealt with, but wo hope to publish the result m a few day-.. Mr C R. Johnvm, coach ])ropuetor, Hamilton, has received a sample of coal of a superior quality to th.it lefcirod to above The thickness of the seam fiom wlncli tins was, obtained is 14 feet^ The bpeciman may be seen at Mr Johnson's office.
