SUCCESSFUL TROUT BREEDING IN WAIKATO.

Wk are glad to notice that the offoits of Mi (Tolling, of Hamilton, with regard to the hutching of the tiont ova Live been successful, and that some of the young fi«h which have been hatched out by him are now to be found "all alive 0 " in one of the principal creeks in the district. Some .short time ago Mr Jno. Douglas, of Bruntuood, took 00 of the little fish from Mi (Celling and put them in one of the sheltered inlets of the Mangaone creek. A few day.s ago Mr Douglas on visiting the cieek haw fuiii of the youngsters together, and in an apparently thriving condition. The trout ova whicn Mr (ieof. Meclean, of Paeroa, took in hand to hatch out sometime ago, we understand, have been veiy successfully handlecl.and several young fish may now be seen dispoiting themselves in one of the creeks of the district. It is .somewhat surpris ingthat the work of stocking our creeks with trout is not more heartily taken up by the hettlei.s of Waikato who have the necessary time and conveniences at their disposal to devote to such a deserving pursuit. Certainly it is a put suit decidedly more patriotic than remunerative ; but as the pleasure which the presence of trout in our creeks would afford is great, sanely there aie somo amongst in who can .see their way to m." ke some small sacrifice for the common weal. Mr Douglas gives as his evperience that the trout in the Mangaone creek have now reached that stage at which the depredations of eels are not to be feared. Messrs Maclean and Douglas are to be congratulated on the success of their efforts in this important matter.
