DUNKDIN, Thursday. - George Townsend, driver of the ' astle' street tram-car, fell over the splashboard. The car passed over his body. Hu died two houra' afterwards at the hospital.
CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The New Zealand Shipping Company cable that, the cargo of the Fenstanton airive«l in good condition The Doric leaves London, December 13th, for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton, and the Fenstanton on December 2lst for Port Chalmers.
HUNTLY, Friday. Mr William Birss's dwelling and store at Ohinewai was burned to the ground last evening. Nothing whatever was saved.
WELLINGTON, Friday. The second contest (48 hours) between Edwards and Scott for White's £100 prize commenced at 10 o'clock last night. At 2 p.m. Scott had walked 76 miles, and Edwards 72£.
