The following information transphed regarding the senes of resolutions tabled by Mr Service at the Conference :— (1) That it ih necessary to prevent New Guinea and the islands fioui tho equator to the New Hebrides falling into the hands of Foreign Poweis ; (2) that to pieclude such a disaster it is desiiable to urge tlie Imperial Government annexation, or establish protectorate over these islands ; (3) that the colonies aie willing to bear a rea'.onaMo propoition of the cost of such annexa£iflM^i or pi otection ; (4) that the colonies protest .igainst the proposal of the French GovernI ment in regard to_ the Recidivists and appeal to the Impel ial Government to prevent .such a dire calamity as is threatened ; (5) that in view of many other important matters, the time has arrived for binding the colonies in a Federal Uuion on such matter? a& the Convention may deteimine. It is understood that there is a devergenco of views among the delegates on the question of Annexation, some being in favour of limited action only. Mr Griffith*, the Piemier of Queensland, has tabled a serieu of resolution similar to those of Mr Service, but limiting them to New Guinea, and requiring the immediate establishment of British jurisdiction there. Mr Dalley, Attorney-General of New South Wales, has proposed an amendment on Mr Griffiths}^ motion similar to the first and seconcP^ clauses of Mr Service's motion, strongly adI vocating that a Conference should define , the relations of, the Navigators and Friendly I' Islands towards Australia.
