ACCIDENT AT KARIOI.
Our Raglan correspondent writes as follows :—ln: — In the account I sent you last week of my trip round K&rioi, I stated that I saw a number of Maoris catching dog-fish off Te Whanga. After I passed, one of the canoes capsized, and the occupants, (of which there were a large number), had great difficulty in reaching the shore. Most of them were quite exhausted, and one of them, Pari Pari, a chief from Aotea, was severely hurt amongst the rocks in his attempt to reach the land. In this instance, like many others of the same sort which happen here, the natives concerned, have to thank their early tuition in the art of swimming for their escape. They are generally excellent swimmers, and often have miraculous escapes from drowning, owing to this circumstance.
