Breaches of the Beer Act. Thames, Last Night.
The Police Court was crowded all the morning by persons anxious ,ip hear the revelations in the cases brought against Messrs Ehrenfried andHojrg for breaches of the Beer Duty Act. The latter was charged with neglecting to properly cancel one stamp. Mr Miller appeared for the defendant, and Mr Brasssy. prosecuted. ' The case -was proved, lind the lowest penalty (JB2O) inflicted 'without costs.' ' Ehrenfried' s case "was a more serious one, the charge being that he used t atamps that had already dope duty, c Mr Brassey appeared for s th« proseontcjr, the Collector of Customs, and Mr Tyler for
the defendant. , Prosecutor deposed that he had taken a stamp off one of Ehrenfried^s casks of beer which appeared to be a second hand one. Three of defendant's employes were then examined, and swore that the stamp in question was an old 6iie. Messrs and Tyler then went for eaoh other in risrht good style. The case was finally dismisbed on technical grounds.
