YE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.

Ode (.l long waj) after M-icnulaj. Attend all ye who list to hear our Hamiltonidu's praise, I sing of the thrioo famous deeds the y wrought in modern dajh, When to receive their Governor they mustered rank and file, And raised a gallant archway, a most impooiug pile, And fii-hfc this archway to describe, it was both bioad and squat. And was termed by the irreverent " decidedly tin-pot," Wanting in wealth of evergreens, and not to be compared To the one Sir George Giey rode beneath ; but nobody mizeh cared As long as lots of money was spent on the election. It matteied not, its shortcomings, we hope, escaped detection By the brave and gallant gentleman in whose honour it was raided, And who (as what less could he do) its beauties duly praised. It was about the time of noon on a wnrm summer's day, There came a special railway train full speed to Frankton Bay, Forthwith the Mayor and deputation called out to meet His Excellency Sir A. Gordon and his gallaut suite. They greeted him with cheers both loud and strong, and loud, And seated them in vehicles our notables among. Then escorted by our Cavalry, and headed by the Mayor, They drove up to the city, creating great daspair In the bosoms of the Councillors, who were left out in the cold, Because they would not meet to greet the Governor when told. The local baud, in bpite of heat and dust, and want of beer, Played liavely, and did much the show to cheer. The addieus was duly lead, and presented to Sir A. By his Woishipful the Mayor, Avho knighted bhould ha\c been this d.iy. But by some painful oversight the thing was overlooked, Aud out of lm due riirhts our worthy Mayor was "rooked." Sir Arthur thought it all a boic, but stayed and had a feed ; Then started oft' to Cambridge with all convenient hpeed, Where f uithur boiedom waited him in the laying of a " stone" And unother swell reception. Ooh hone ! Och hone ! Och hone !
