TE AROHA. [FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT .]
The formation of the Battery Company is progressing satisfactorily here, and it ia hoped that other places are doing as well. Yesterday a canvass was made amongst the business people, which resulted m over 500 shared beiug taken up. Applications for shares from the claim-holders are not expect3d before Saturday or Monday, owing to the time occupied in communicating with shaieholdera in distant places. There is, however, no doubt, that Te Aroha will do its share in floating the Company ; and if a reasonable amount of assistance is received from the Waikato and Auckland, the erection of the battery will be proceeded with immediately. Already plans and specifications have been prepared, and tenders for its erection are invited till the 22nd instant. In anticipation of this crushing power being soon on the field, a number of the claims hare commenced taking out quartz and paddocking it, and confidence in the field, which last week appeared to be languishin jr, has considerably revived. The All Nations are obtaining good prospects from their leader, and are very jubilant. It will be seen by your advertising columns that a meeting of the shareholders is to take place next Tuesday, when arrangements will bo made for more fully developing the mine. An eighth of a share in this claim has been sold to Mr Batt, of Cambridge, for £20. The Te Aroha No. 1 South G.M. Co. are doing a large amount of work, and on Wednesday cut through a very nice reef about 18 inches thick, at a distance 0^ about 41 feet from the mouth of their lower drive. The upper drive is now in 55 feet, andthe manager intends to continue both diives, in order to thoroughly prospect the mine. The Pride of Jersey sent a parcel of stone to the Thames, and I have just heard on good authority they have had a first-class return ; it is stated between three and four ounces to the ton, but as definite particulars are not to hand I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the statement. A sitting of The Wardens Court was held on Wednesday, for the purpose of dealing with applications for leases of ground, and the following were granted : —A . W. Rowe, Bright Smiie Company ; H. E. Whitaker, Golden Gate ; W. Fraser for the Bonanza. Application of Wick and Lavery, for license for the Waitoa claim, was adjourned till the 26th instant, as was also the application of Gribble and Lapham, for the United. In the township there is little to record. Gie.it satisfaction is expressed at the decision of the Piako County Council to spend £200 in forming the main roads thiough the township. The last few days wet weather has given us an idea of Avhat we might expect in the winter, unless streets were formed. The subscriptions for the race meeting progress satisfactorily, between £30 and £00 being subscribed the first clay, so that good sports may be anticipated, and a large influx of visitors from Waikato may be looked for.
