THE BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTION.

A vacancy having occurred in the Borough Council of Hamilton in consequence ot Councillor J. Knox having been elected Mayor for the ensuing year, a poll took place yesterday for the purpose of filling up the vacancy. The candidates nominated were Messrs. Charles Tippen and Robei t Fitzmurice Sandes, the former being elected by a majority of ten. The number of votes polled were as follows :— Tippin ... . .. 81 Sandes ... .. . . 71 In addition to the above, one informal vote was lodged, which the Returning Officer (Mr Gelling), disallowed. The event, as will be seen by the number of votes recoided, excited but little interest.
