A steamer has arrived at Cooktown with the following items of Eastern intelligence, dated the 13th inst. i — Hopes of a peaceful settlement of the difficulties between Russia and China are improving, but warlike preparations still remain unabated on the part of China. There has baen a most destructive hurricane in the Chinese seas. Slight shocks of eai*thquakes still continue at Manilla. Heavy floods have fallen, inflicting great damages on merchandise. Skipping are unable to load or discharge. The Java sugar crop accounts state that the yield is likely to be small.
