THE CHARGES AGAINST ACTON ADAMS, M..H .R. [UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Saturday.
The charge against Mr Acton Adams was concluded last night, a little after eleven o'clock. An hour and a-half was spent in settling the special jury of a panel of thirty-six. Mr Connolly, who defended, fhallengod ten, and the prose, cution ordered twelve to stand aside, and when the list wa3 gone through, but nine of the j uryiuen were in the box, the reraaiuing number not attending. Those for whom the medical man did not attest were fined £5 each. The list was again commenced. Mr Fell then claimed to try certain jurors, but ultimately it was agreed to take the first twelve by ballot, and the case then proceeded. For the prosecution, Mr Bradley, Clerk of the Court, Judge Broad, Mr Donald, pui chaser of M-iraher, Mr Thomas, late owner and mortgagor of the same, Mr Edward Moore, solicitor, who took notes at the District Court, and Mr. Jones, articled clerk to Adams, were the witnesses examined, but the case for the prosecution was not so strong as it was before the magistrates. At tne conclusion of the ca^e for the prosecution, Mr Connelly said he should call no witnesses, and Mr Fell addressed the jury for half-au-hour, making a good but temperate speech. Mr Connelly followed for au hour and a-half in a most effective speech, the Court being crowded. The Chief Justice then summed up, occupying two hours, and the Jury retired, and having, in the meantime, asked a question of the Judge, announced a verdict of " Not guilty, " which was received with great applause. His Honor expressed entire concurrence in the verdict.

Never fret about to-morrow's weather. If to-day's weather is pleasant, enjoy it. You may be so fortunate as to escape tomorrow's storm by getting smashed ou the railway or blown up on the steamboat.

" I wish to marry an idiot," she. replied, " but the trouble is, I am sure some day or other to meet a greater idiot than he, and perceive that I have been too hasty in my choice," " Don't be alarmed, sister," rejoined Jeannine, "you will never meet a greater imbecile thau the iqw who. will marry you."
