CAMBRIDGE FARMERS CLUB.
I>r pursuance of Mr. Buttles amendment at the meeting of this club held on the 19th inst., a special general meeting was convened on Saturday lat-t to discuss the desi.ability of holding a ploughing match this season. Present — Messrs. E. Maclean (President, in the chair), H. Buttle, J. Runciman, F. Hicks, G. E. Clark, Kalender, Brooks, and Fisher. The Chairman in a few opening remarks thought that as there were so few present little interest seemed to lie taken in the subject before them, but it now rested with those pre«ent whether a committee should be appointed, or dicuss the match or whether they should postpone the meeting. Mr Buttle said he had mentioned the subject to the several members who were not at the present meeting, and who had remarked if they attended they might perhaps thi - ow a damper on it. Mr Clark stated that being an interested party he spoke with some diffidence, but mentioned that six teams might be relied on and probably double that number. *It was a great pity it should fall through ; as by abandoning 1 it this year it might be abandoned for evpr, and other club institutions might meet the came fate. The Chairman said great apathy was shown by the members in not attending. He had no doubt a larger number of teams might bo got than ever competed here or in Auckland, but it was ,the duty of members to attend the Club meetings. It looked as if a few individuals were to do the whole business of the Club, and generally those who nb-ented themselves were the first to complain. If ths meetings were too frequent they should be held quarterly instead of monthly, but it was most desirable that members should attend. He thought it would be best to postpone this meeting, as there were not a sufficient number, to select a committee from, and it would not do to elect people who were not present. Mr Buttle 'thought it would not do. Anybody feeling the least interested in the match would have attended. He said there was no fear of having 1 coiapetitors, but thought the difficulty was raising the required £50, and believed the real seciet Avas the expense. He proposed — That through the dulncss of the time 1 ) the Ploughing be allowed to lapse for this year. This was seconded by Captain Runciman, and carried ; and the meetiug shortly afterwards terminated.
