CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.
TO THE EDITOIt. Sin, — In common -with many others, I was rejoiced at the tone of your subleader of last Tuesday's issue in connection with that case of cruelty to a horae which happened up country some short time back, and your vigorous denunciation of it has gained you many admirers. But, sir, don't you think it would be advisable for eack township in the Waikato, instead of merely resting content with denouncing it, to form societies for the prevention of cruelty to dumb animals ? and vigorously prosecute any and every case of the kind. lam not aware of the existence of an institution of this kind in Auckland, but surely with its 20,000 inhabitants it ought to have one. Surely in ea«U township of the j^Vaikato there could -be found a ' few humane men that would combine for the above purpose. Trusting your able pen will assist this matter, — I am, &c, * v • * Mercy. Hamilton, Juno 17, 1880.
