GRAHAMSTOWN, last night. The Hon. Mr Macandrew and Mr Blackett, accompanied by the County Chairmau and Mayor, proceed! d to Ohinemuri this morning t over the country through which the railway passes. Mr Sheehan, Major Itempj and and other chiefs visit Waikato at Christmas. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The land revenue for the month of November shows a great falling" off as compared with the previous month. In October it was .£191,000, while m November it was only £48,872 7x 2d. The largest returns last month were from the Canterbury and Southland Counties, where one system of selec-ion ]r3vails. The County of Wallace contributed the largest sum, £6191 ; Akaroa being next with £5754, and Southland next with £5137. The lowest return was Ford County — £2. A pio.ce of land on the Thorndon reel situation, with thirty feet frontage, has been leased for 99 years, at ah annual rental of £500. The lessees are to have the power of purchasing for £9000. at any time within 15 years. It is stated that the Government have intimated to the Mayor that they will be prepared to bring down for support next session such a measure aS will make immigration of Chinese to this polony practically impossible. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Mr R. H. Leary, retiring Mayor, was yesterday presented with a silver cradle, because he had a ohild born to. him during his term of office. INVERCARGILL, Tuesday, The appeal against the election of Mr Thomson as County Councillor for Winston Riding was heard to-day, before Mr McDonald, R.M. The chief objections were that the date of election was not notified m the manner requited by tho section of the Regulation of Local Elections Act, 187G ; that the day of polling, instead of election, had been notified ; that tho place appointed for the nomination of candidates being within a Municipal Council Borough, was not within the Riding. The case was argued exhaustively. The magistrate sustained the objection. The election of Mr McGellan for Gore, and Mr Smith for the A Wero Riding, we/c also petitioned agam-st on similar grounds, and were also declared void.
