To the Hon. the Minister for Public Works. — The memorial of the undersigned residents of the city and suburbs of Auckland alieweth — That your memorialists are resident in the city and suburbs of Auckland, and are desirous of urging upon the Government the great importance of immediate action being taken to secure the construction of the proposed line of railway between Te Awamutu and Taranaki. That this proposed line is a most important' part of North Island trunk line. TJiat it would ruin through native land, /the owners of which' have been ho3tile to' the Queen' h authorities, to the great hinderance of the pece and prosperity of the adjacent European districts. The construction of this line Tvould have a very important influence for good on these natives. They would be

drawn into closer relationship with Europeans, and this land, instead of remaining unproductive, would probably shortly be under cultivation, and a large and prosperous European population be settled thereupon.
