ANENT MR MACLAURIN'S CASE ! ;!

Sib, — The following resolution was carried at a meeting m the Public Hall, on Saturday evening 20th inst :--" That the present local school committee are incompetent, and that they resign immediately, aud that Mr Maclaurin is a fit and proper person, and thoroughly competent to act as teacher for Te Awamutu School," which is as much as to say that Mr O'Sullivan, the Inspector of Schools, is not a fit person to fnlfilhis appointment, aud that the Board of Education m Auckland do not know what they are about. Now, no sane person would say those preseut fairly represented the views of the people, for out of those present (some 27 altogether) only 12 held up their hands, the remainder not voting pro or con to the above resolution. Three of them scud their children to Te Rahu school ; one resides at Kihikihi ; two have no children old enough to attend ; three were batchelors (who could assist the schoolmaster much better by taking one or two of his daughters off his hands) ; and three were parents of children attending school — two of the latter can barely write their names, so their standard of education must be high. Now, the inhabitants have had the opportunity of giving vent to their surplus steam, let us hope they will all unite and put m a good man as M.H.R. Hoo roah " as Sam Weller said "for principles" throw up hafa. Accept a few hints from a looker on. — Yours &c-, Chotty.
