HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL MELTING.

The regular forth nightly meeting" ot the Bo.trd took place on Monday evening last, m tbe Court House, Hamilton. Present : Us Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Bdale, Coaxes, Cox, Gvudui, Gardiner, Uwynne, Daw«on and Potter. The ayor explained, that the time since the Us> meeting had been too short to allow of his oblaining all the documents relating to the financial position of the two late Town Boards, but that they would be ready by the next meeting. His Worship also stated that he had cal<ed on tlie lessee of the ferry to pay the rent. The ferry rent for the current tnon.h had been paid to the account of the Borough Council. RESERVES. The Mayor aiso stated that m accordance with a resolution of the Councill, ihe reserves Committee had met, and selected the most suitable pieces of land on the Dorough, ior the 100 acre endowment, but that before selecting the 2000 acres outside the borough boundaries i: would be neceosary 10 get inioimation, and tracings ot maps from Auckland. PUNT REPAIRS. The Mayor stated that he had asked one person to go over the punt, and report on the repairs necessary to be made to it. Ihe party employed had been busy, and had not given m such a report as he, the Mayor, thought should have been given. A handrail alao had been ordered, but it had not been made. It was difficult to get carpenters work done, so busy was every tradesman. PLANS OF BKIDGKS.. it was stated that a telegram hud been sent to Wellington, asking ior plans, &c, of the bi idge designed by the Government some time siuce for the Waikaio, at Haiuiltoo, but an answer had not yet been received. Cr. Potter proposed " that tenders be called ior the supply of piaus f'oi a bridge, offering a premium of £150 for the best, and of £61) for tht second best plan/ Seconded by Cr Beale. Cr. Coaies tuought they ought to have some data first to go by such as soundiugs, state of foundation &c, The M«yor was sorry to differ from Cr. Potter, but thought money was too important a matter to the Council, to throw away £210 ou premiums tor pirns especially atthi.stage, and that too m the face ot the Government plans and specifioacions having been offered by the Premier for nothing, who had even said that it tuesa did not .suit, a Government jbiiigiueer might be applied for to prepare others. •Several otutr Crs. objected to spending m ney for sucu purpo-e and the motion was allowed to lapse. SLAUGHTER HOUSES. Ot. Poiter m accordance with a notice of motion, brought forward the question of licensing slaughit-r. houses. He had waited to finish bhe erection of a slaughter house for some months m East Hamilton, so that the license might be obtaiued rYoin and the tees go to the Borough. The site of the slaughter h use he wished to e-ect was m East Hamilton near the Butts on lot 252a. I'Ue site was a most suitable one. He would apply now for permission 10 kill subject to such bye-laws us the Council might make. The proposed site as many af ihe Council knew, was far away from the inhabited part of the Borough. Cr. Potter then handed m the following application. I apply to the Borough Council for permission to erect an abbatoir on No. 252a, Kirikiriroa, and for a license for the same subject to all by-laws m respect thereto emanatiug from the Council. — AjCBEBT POITEB. Cr. Beale moved and Cr. Gardiner secordcd That, before granting the application, a committee be appointed to examine whether the proposed site be suitable, m a sanitory point of view, or otherwise. Cr. Cox then proposed as an amendment, which was seconded by Cr. Dawson, That Mr Potter be permitted to proceed with the erection of his slaughter-house, subject to the conditions of the by-laws to be made by this Council. The amendment was put and carried. For the amendment Crs. i Dawson, Cox, Coates, Gwynne, Gaudin. Against Crs. Gardner and Beale. THE CLERK. I It was then proposed by Cr Potter, seconded and canied unanimously 1 That the present Clerk, Mr J. M. Gelling, be retained as Clerk to this Council pro tern, the remuneration to be as that decided upon hereafter. -The office of clerk to embrace the following offices, town clerk, treasurer, collector, inspector of nuisances, and slaughterhouses. A resolution having been proposed by Cr Potter »nd seconded by Cr. Gwynne, was carried, as follows : That a committee be formed— consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Beale, Dawson, Hume, Cox, and the mover-to form a .code >of by-laws' for the good Government of the Borough. . . There was no other busines-i, and the meeting separated.
