HORRIBLE BRUTALITY AT WALLSEND.
At Plattsburg a man named Edwards and his> wife were addicted to drink, which, as in all such cases, was the cause of much discord between them. It seems some disturbance took place between them, when, in addition to inflicting frightful injuries on the head and face of the poor woman by which she was rendered neaily insensible, the miscreant emptied a kettle of boiling water over her, and then boiled the kettle a second and thiicl time, deliberately pouring the contents of the second on her, and was only prevented completing the operation a third time by the poor children, who had been spectators of the horrible scene, covering their mother with bags, and huddling her beneath a bunk. In this condition >>he lay until the second day, the wretch who inflicted them having refused admission to any one, even his eldest daughter. On the second day the condition of the poor creature was such that some of the neighbours had to be called in, when, in dressing her wounds, a large number of maggots were taken therefrom. We are informed that she now in a most precarious state. The wretch who occasioned her sufferings is still at large. We are also informed thatthis is not the first time he has injured her, as, previous to his late attack, she bore evident marks of his foimer brutality. We must not omit to state that the woman has a young child only eight months old.
