The Shipping Go's barque, Stanley, has arrived from London, after a passage of 118 days. The voyage was protracted by a succession of gales and unfavorable weather. Arrived — Lady Bird, s.s, from the South.
Dunedin, Wednesday. At a meeting of Ministers and influential citizens it was decided to form an association to cheapen funerals and simplify the, present mode of interment.
(From the Daily Southt.rx Cnoss. Tauranga, Tuesday. Tlie Luna arrived at ten o'clock lust night. Passengers — Bishop "Williams, Judge Ilogan, Captain Mair and contingent. His Honor the Superintendent and Mr Holloway met the natives in the new Court-house yesterday afternoon. Crowds of natives were present, and the affair was a success. Mr Holloway left this morning ppr coach for Ohinelnutu, accompanied by Mr J C. Young. On his return he will inspect thoroughly the district, accompanied by the chairman of the .Road Board. Captain Turner, District Engineer, left last night for Ohiwa in the Southern Cross to choose a site for the Government wharf about to erected there.

The prospectus is issued of the new Steam company, to provide a steamer exprewjly suited for the bar harbours of thi« province.

Dunedin, Tuesday. At the meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, a a letter was read from the Government, stating that they -would be piepared to hand over every-
thing connected with the haibour department tomorrow, the Chief Harbour-master being the only officer placed under the entire control of the Board. The financial committee recommended the Board's account to bo placed in the Colonial Bank. On the subject of debentures that mortgage forms for L500, be prepaml, the terms of loan for thirty years from the firat of January next, and in-tou-f,t and pnncipal payable at Dunedin, Melbourne, Sydney, A. .laidf, or London, the first issue being £l20,OG0.
