ALEXANDRA. (From Our own Correspondent.)

A MEETING was held at Te Awarautu on the 24th inst., to arrange for the forthcoming Christmas races. Mr A. Kay in the chuir. The meeting was very poorly attended, as owing to some mistake, nono but proposed committee men had been invited, consequently the general public had no ilea of it. Mr Roach proposed, and Mr Rutherford seconded, " That the usual Christmas races bo held on the 26th Dec, next. Some discussion them arose as to a fit course. A statement was made that Mr A'osander would give a course for the purpose for £10 and the takings of the gates and sale of booths ; this was overruled as much, too high and likely to absorb a considerable portion of the funds. Mr liutberford offered his paddock free, but as it is well known that this course is not of a first-class character, it was decided that a committee should look around for a more suitable site for the purpose. The following races were then decided upon, viz. .—. — Hurdle Jfiace — one mile and a half, ovor 6 flights of hurdles. Welter weight for age. Maiden Plate — ono mile and a qnarter. Weight for age Open to any horse not winner ot advertised money £5 or upwards. Te Awamutu Cvp — handicap Two miles. G-alloway Races — for horses 14.2 and under. Weight for inclieb. Top -weight 10 stone. Consolation Stakes — open to all beaten horses. Hack Rnce — one mile a half. Horses to carry 10 stone. The winner to be sold for £20 surplus to go to tho fund. Owing to some nustako or insufficient notification 1 see notices of a public meeting in Alexandra on Friday next, for the purpose of carrying out the above.
