Dyer wa^ executed this morning. He made the following statement to the Bishop one hour before the execution :— lst. JNapier, xnursaay. Steps are being taken to give a banquet in honor of Sir D. McLean. He will remain in the province about a fortnight. All the immigrants per the Helen Denny are engaged. The directors recommend the disposal thus : reserve £15.100, and the payment of a dividend of 10 per cent, for the half-year £2500, and to carry forward £5600. The first report of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory gives I^he net profit for the 1 1 months, ending October 6, of £3GII 7s sd. The following appropriations were recommended : — Ten per cent, dividend, £2284 10s lOd ; the balance, £1426 12s 7d to be carried to the reserve fund, replacement machinery, &c At the Supreme Court, in Dobson v. Macandrew, a claim for £1000, for wrongful ejectment from the Port Chalmers railway refreshment room, the jury at 1 1 p.m. returned a verdict for £200. The defendant obtained leave to apply for a new trial on nonsuit points, a\ hich were disallowed, and closed plaintiff's case. Dr Whiblow, late of the immigrant ship SchiehulKon, was elected surgeon of the Naseby Hospital. Mr Bathgate reserved his decision in the case against the publicans having two bars, but convicted Lyons for permitting singing and dancing in his licensed house. The report of the surveyor states it would cost £156,800 to permanently complete the streets of the city on the most economical plan.
