WELLINGTON. Wednesday.
The tlebple on the Foiest Bill is proceeding. Reid opposed vlie Bill. He admitted the measure had a good object in view and was veiy much required, and \-hat fie Premier deseived the thanks of tne colony for opening the subject. He thought the machine- y bad, and thaJ the work should be left to the provinces to carry out. Txie Premier, in reply, made a foicible speech in defence of the measure, and was particularly severe upon Fi.zlierberi, and Bunny. He compared Fitzherbevt to a blue j,um, that ravenous and voracious wee which would not allow any other tree or shrub to live alongside it. In both Houses 10-day a Committee was appointed lo enquire into the breach of privilege of the Tribune newspaper for publishing an Auckland telegram purporting \o give the evidence of Judge Ward before the Ward-Chapman Committee. The business this afternoon was generally formal.
