Xn the PrevincHil Council to-flay, in reply to Mr Noiris, tho Provincial Secretary stated that the General Government purposed to proceed with the survey of the Katikati block ibr the settlement of Mr Stuart's immigrants. | |In reply to Mr Dargaville, ho said the Government would make enquiries with a \iew to further subsidising the Coromandel Hospital. Tho motion by Mr Swan for tho imposition of a tax on all lands not within Highway Districts, the revenue to be applied to Provincial purposps, was carried. An address will be presented to tho Supeuntendent to send down a bill to onact accordingly. Carpenter's motion for raising £10,000 pounds on the oM Supreme Court sito to be applied to school buildings, was adjourned till tho select committee had reported on the subject. Mr Boche, one of the members for Waikato, in a capital speech, ridiculed tho Native Department. His sentiments seemed to be widely approved of in tho Council. He moved a resolution disapproving of tho Native and Defenco policy of tho I'olpninl Government. A debate was interrupted by the dinner adjournment.
