Christchurch, Monday. The Governor and suite were received at Lyttelton b>* ♦ he Hon E. Richardson, Mrs Richardson, his Ho or thn Superintendent, Mrs Eolleston, the members of the Executive, and the Mayor and Town Council of Lyttelton, the Artillery forming a nunrd of honor. The artillery and shipping ilre.i a salute. The town was gay witu buntiug. A triumphal arch was erected at the end of the jetty. The Vice-R 'gal party having passed through the arch to the railway platform, the children of the Borough School, numbering 330, sang the " National Anthem," and gave three cheers. The Mayor of Lyttelton presented an address, to which the Governor responded, and thanked thorn for the hearty reception. He said he intended to remain long enough to muke himself thoroughly acquainted with this province, which he remarked was second to none in the colony. Lo id •sheers greeted the termination of the speech. A special train took tho party to Christchurch, where they were received wilii a. guard pf honour, but very few people were present. There was no demonstration. Tuesday. CANTERBURY RACE MEET. The race meeting opened to-day with marked •uccets. The weather was dull, but there was a (me attendance on the course, larger than on the first day for yean. The GoTernor and Ludy Ferguston and »uite arrired shortly after the first race, and were received by his Honor the Superintendent and the race stewards, the band on the ladies' lawn playing the while the National Anthem. Mr Vogel was also present. The first event was the Maiden "Plate, of 100 soys, added to a sweepstake of 10 sors each ; second horse to save his stake.
