Tauranga, Thursday. The yacht Gipsy Queen w as capsized in the harbor to-day. Mr Ellis and two Maori boys were rescued by the Southern Cross's boat. Hans Tapsell says thnt Hip King natives nro starving, and their horses and cattle- dying.
Wellington, Wednesday. There is a well authenticated rumor of a new rush on the west coMt of the Middle lalund on the River Haast. Coarse gold is reported to hare been struck three miles inland. Substantiating this fact, Driseoll, of Hokitika, who is here with » petition to the Assembly, has bee»i reeallprl in consequence of the rush. 'Inrnbull, harbormaster, of Westlnnd, has none to look after the marine business. The agent of the Omeo at Greymouth wanted the ©meo to be laid on for the new rush. The further report >f the Si'lect Committee on local induitries is to the following effect :— 'Coal : By the con"struction of rnilwaps, the fields of Olngo nnd Canterbury will be developed. The introduction of salmon and trout was recommended. A paper by Mr Butt, asking Ihe consideration of the Government to recommend that the various Superinintendents of provinces should take into consideration sleps to prevent the wasteful destruction of forests.
