In order to mako room for our tylpgraphio news wo hold OYerouF leading *rlble and som* correspondence till »pxt WBUO. The Albion priced *fc the Bluff from Melbourne on Tuesdaj. She was tha bwrer of the European mail via Suez. We cannot, thcrul'yio, rcccivo our lettew and pnjiem for at leiMtei^lil tints.
We unJi/iytand tlmt it is the intention of the management to open a branch of the National Hunk of New Zealand at Hamilton. This will afford additional banking ace mnnodation for the public, and is therefore to bo welcomed. It is doubtless, however, whether tho Waikato is as jet sufficiently for advanced to «upporfc two banks. NeTerthdets, the day i-. not for distent when it will, and the National Bank direKors are perhaps wise in coming early into the field. OuptAin Simpson, late pilot at Hokianga, was drowned on (in« 21st ultimo. It appears that he wa» preparing to put oil to a rcssel making for the harbour. He had a crew of two native hands. Whilst they wore hoisting the jib he attempted to rig the jolt on to the rudder. H e must hare fallen overboard, as when the crew looked aft ho had disappeared. They searched for him, but as it was midnight they were unable to see anything of him. He unfortunately Unrea a wife and large family. One end of the Waikato is not to be outdone by the other. Omnbridge is to have its theatrical performance this evening, •nd we learn that the recently formed Ngaruawahia Amateur Dramatic Club will give a performance on Tuesday next, the proceeds to be devoted to the aid of the funds of the local library. We have si»o» the programme, and if the quality | ol the entertainment is at all in keeping with the quantity I those who attend will receive lull value for their money. ! We trust tliat other townships will follow this laudable example set them by Cambridge and Ngaruawahia. In addition to promoting good objects dramatic clubs find empi >yment for the young men and thereby keep them out of mischief. The cricketing season was opened at Cambridge on Saturday last by a match between the Armed Constabulary and the Settlers.
