To the Hok Members of thh House of IIurBK&EjfTATivES IN* PAItLIAMUNT ASSJIMBLKD. The Petition of tho undersigned humbly bhewcth, That jour petitioners are Landholders and residents in the Waikato district. That the resources of tho dwtrict would be very rapidly developed, and the industry of t he inhabitants stimulated if a railway ran through it. That the City of Auckland should draw the larger portion of its supplies of grain from the Waikato ; tho soil of that district being eminently adapted to tho growth of cereals. That the high rale of freight and labour prohibits the grow tli of moie grain than will supply the wants of tho residents. That this would bo obviated if a railway brought the district m easy communication with the large centre of population, Auckland, l'aupo or Napier, or to the lino at present being constructed along the West Coast. That ynu- petitioners are confident that tho railway would at once pay working expenses and interest on the cost of construction. And your petitioners will ever pray.
