John MeAdam lids been remanded on a charge of indecently assaulting Henrietta JHatrope. ° Mr James Mackay, jun, is at Cambridge. A large meeting was held at Cambridge last Saturday evening, at which 150 settlers were present. The following telegram was read from tlio Native Minister :— "General Go\ eminent Buildings, Wellington, April 26, 1 p.m.— We are m possession ol full particulars of the unfortunate murder, and are taking steps 111 reference thereto. Except m actual self-defence, any operations uuderfcaken under arms must be conducted under the directions of the otlicer in military command of the district." The same gang of Aratetaha natives attempted the murder of one Mr Lane}, and was here strongly commented upon.— The following resolutions were adopted by the meeting unanimously :—: — " That this meeting feels the utmost horror and detestation of the brutal murder of Timothy Sullivan, and pledges itself to use every lawful means in its power to bring tlio murderers to justice." "That this meeting is of opinion that, as the country in the vicinity of Fukekura is totally unprotected, the Government ought to erect a blockhouse at Pukokura without loss of time." "That this meeting do stand adjourned until tins day week, nt three p m., to allow time for the Defence Minister to commence the pursuit of the murderers." j The meeting adjourned until Saturduy next, at 3 o'clock, 1 in ordcJ to give the Government tune to act.
