Ax extraordinary case of forgery on the part of a Church uf England clergy man han just been bi ought to light at Muldlcaboroiigh. The alleged culprit is the Rev. Air Y.wopau Henry Moyle, vicar of Estoii, a village near Muldlcsborough. On the foi uution of the iron inanufacI tuuu^iinuot J.u.k«ioii, Gill and Co., of Ebtou, mfco a limited I company, Mr Moyle applied for JtlO.UOl) worth of shares, i ami ou rttptember 30 these shares were allotted to him. He paid up the mm of £3,500 in three calls, not as they fell due b.t m a lump sum. .Suspicion was rirst aroused witli regard to the cnciumtanee ot ammous shares in connection with Jackson, t .ill and Co, on the receipt of a letter by the seoietary alluding to a transaction of which ho knew nothing. Inquiries wen- immediately set on foot, which 1 exulted m the discovery that some one outside the company was using its name in older to benefit himself. This was ccmlinucil when the secietary bubsequently re- , ceived what purported to be 2'M fully paid-up shaies, ill awn in the name of the Rev. Vjvoyau Hemy Moyle, and purporting to be Healed by the company, attested by the secietary, and couutersigned by William Gill and Thomas Gill, together with a transfer signed by Moyle, purporting to be also in the pieseueo of the secretary. Tlie secietary communicated with tiie niamgiug director, who j was then lroin home. On hearing this he at once returned, aud placed the matter m the Gauds of the company's i solicitor, who in turn communicated with the Mutual Society, whoue head ollicos aic at Gresham buddings, I Guildhall, London, who, it was feaied, had advanced money j upon th.se spuuous doeumeuts. When the secretary of the company arrived in Middlesboiough, further inquiries left no doubt but tbat a gigantic fraud had been perputiated. The police weie duected to watch the residence of Mr Moyle. A strong desire being felt, if pobsible, not to mterfeie with him winle discliargmg his pastoral duties, they were told not to make an anest unless there was an j appeal auuu ot a dcsne to quit the neighbourhood.
