District Court,—Young Men's Christian Association v. George Staines. This was an action for the recovery of £10 for rent due on a building in his occupation. The defendant pleaded as a set oil along list of goods damaged by the leaking of the roof to the extent of £63 ; and,.in addition, he produced a long bill for medical attendance and drugs for his wife, in consequence of illness produced by the house notbeing watertight. The case caused great amusement in Court. Judgment for plaintiff, Grahamstown. William Phillips, a blacksmith, met with a severe accident yesterday. A quantity of iron fell on his back. News has been received to October Dr Murray escaped prosecution by turning Queen's evidence. Great excitement continues in consequence of the Fluke in sheep.Great immorality has been brought to light by tie police having visited the "dens" of Ballarat A man named Whittington tomahawked a man named Thomas Finnigan for scduciug his wife.
