From the Daily Southern Crow. Wellington, Thursday. At a meeting- of merchants and importers at Wellington it was resolved to form a freight company. The Luna lias arrived with tho Governor, ]Vlr. McLean and Mr. Ormond. Wednesday. The "Post" trusts that the principal citizens will invoke aid from the General Government in rescinding the absurd proclamation of tho Auckland Board of Health, cmannting from the senseless panic or rancourous envy of the people of Auckland. Persons having any claim to the thousand pounds reward for the discovery of a goldfield in thin province are requested to send in their claims to the Provincial Secretary. Colonel Fielding's solicitors have received advices that the Colonists' Aid Corporation's first batch of emigrants will be despatched to the colony shortly. Tho Government will introduce a Consolidated Goldfields Act next session. Dnnedin, Thursday. The " Otago Daily Times," at the request of tho Government, publishes a report of the inspection of the Nevada by Nancarrow, J.Jrunt.on, and Douglas, who find that the shaft is cracked in three places, but they do not anticipate any danger from this of ultimate breakage. The Government will give notice for its examination at every port along the coast, and by Mr. Stewart, C.E, at Auckland. There is no need for apprehension if tho steamor goes to San Francisco under easy steam. Tho damage cannot bo repaired in tho colony, but there is no necessity to restrict the carrying of passengers. If the shaft breaks tho vessel must depend upon its sailing qualities. A meeting of gentlemen interested in pastoral pursuits has been called to consider means to prevent the introduction of the foot and mouth disease. Christchurch, Wednesday. In the Supreme Court, the jury, by the direction of the judge, acquitted William Autill oi lugamy, owing to a doubt regarding the identity of his first wife. Hokitika, Thursday. At the sales, yesterday, fat cattle averaged 30a to oss per 100 lb ; 420 merino wethers averaged 17s 7d. Napier, Wednesday. Tho Governor has arrived here. The Luna on her way down called in at Hicks' Bay, where a land dispute, which threatened to result in an open outbreak between the chiefs Mokena and Wi Kiriwiwi, was proceeding. After a long discussion both the disputants agreed to leave the matter in Mr. McLean's hands. The Governor expressed his gratification at the satisfactory conclusion of the quarrel.
