The Council last p issed a resolution to the effect that it was desirable that, with a view to rendering- the administration of the afftirs of the Pr > vines rajre simple and efficient, the Superintendent should be elected by a majority of the Council from ammg-st the members thereof, or from outside the (Jjuncil, and that he should be a member of the Council ex officio, but be removable by a
vote of the majority. That the existing* power of vetoing Ordinances sh -uld be vested in the Governor. Tint there should be an Executive Council of four members, exclusive of the Superintendent, who should be chairman of the Executive, That the Executive should be appointed or remove ! by the Council. That the General Government be asked to bring in a bill next ,session of the Assembly to authorise these alterations. James Irving, a railway employee, lias been, ordered by the Council to be dismissed, for declaiming against the Government and Council at a public meeting last night, and agitating against them. The Government have been requested to anpoint as commissioner a disinterested person to select a site for a central railwty station at Ciristchurch. Four different schemes have been brought forward. Robert Hart, of Wellington, and N". Edwards, of Nelson, are to b'j called to the Upper Mouse. It is not decided who is to represent the G >vernmo:it in the Legislative Council.
