By a correspondent's letter in another column it will be seen that it is intended to form an " Armed Constabulary Association." We are glad that this .stop has been taken. It will act as an incentive, nut only "to tlx© of "fclif? but a.lso to the settlers, to become proficients in the use of the weapon placed in their hands. Wo do not anticipate that there will again be any organised opposition to the Government, but the "greatest security for peace is to be prepared for war." Tt will be seen by advertisement that Mr. Hill's sale at Oliaupo is postponed to the 29th May. There will be a parade of the Volunteers at Hamilton on the Queen's Birthday, and we understand that there will be a ball in the evening, at which a large attendance is expected. Mr. McDonagh, the Govornuionb Life Insurance Agent, arrived here from Alexandra on Tuesday evening, and left yesterday by steamer en route for Auckland. We were very glad to hear that he has succeeded in doing a good amount of business in i this district, evidencing as it does that the settlers are prosperous and thrifty. ! We have received a letfcter from "■ G." comj i plaining of the want of accommodation in, the Ngaruawahia School. We have visited the schoolroom, and find that there is some want of desks j and forms. On enquiry of one of the committee, we were informed that, as soon as funds can be raised, these deficiencies will be supplied. The hat has been round pretty often lately, and it has not yet been possible to find anybody with sufficient "brass" to repeat the process. We regret the apathy displayed by the people of this district in not bringing to our notice the requirements of the Waikato. We necessarily, from the short time we have resided in this portion of the Auckland province, cannot give due prominence to the public works required to be constructed. We again request that the residents in the various townships will keep us informed on these matters. It is matter for congratulation that the working plans of the Waikato and Mercer' Railway are in the hands of the Messrs. Brogden. There is now room to hope that the construction of the line will be rapidly proceeded with. ■ T
