OBITUARY

A r MR 11. W. R. ANDERSON. The sad fatality of Mr Horace Walter Russell Anderson in his launch the “Grey Seal” came as a shock to a wide circle of friends in the district. He was hr his 56tli year and was born in Invercargill, being a. son of the late Mr and Mrs A. Anderson, who were well-known in the Western District. Mr A. Anderson was a barrister and solicitor, practising here, and members of the deceased’s family are also in the legal profession in Melbourne. Shortly after the late Mr Anderson was the family moved to RivertoV, am? he attended the District High School here and after leaving school he was engaged in the drapery trade at Woolfe’s Drapery Store. About 29 years ago lie was married to Miss O. Listen©, who also was a member of a well-known family in this district, and the young people went to Winton, where Mr Anderson continued in the drapery business. He cam© back to Riverton about eleven years ago and v while residing at Taramea Bay built the “Grey Seal” with the intention of 'supplying fish for the shop in Palmerston Street that he eventually opened. Of a kindly, genial nature, “Hooky,” as lie was familiarly known, was happy in the friendship of a wide circle. Known to ■ everybody, he was always ready to help, and responded warmly jto' the traditions of his adopted calling. He was a warm supporter of the Salvation Army, and with it shared his enthusiasm for the sea. He also maintained a kind interest in the Riverton Regatta. He is survived by his widow and his two sons. Wynne and Russell, and his daughter Marjorie. Wynne is a Pte. in tli© N.Z.E.F. and is at present in >Egypt.

Captain Mounsey, of the Salvation Army, ©onductecl the services. A,t the Hall she was assisted by the Rev. H. R. Wright and at the graveside by the Rev. J. A. F. Watson. The deceased .was buried in the Riverton Cemetery, the pall-bearer being Mr G. Foster and Mr J. Fallow, of 'lhorn:bury, Mr J. Scarlett and Mr W. Evans, of Gummies Bush, and Mr P. B. Bornd.tson and the Rev. H. R. Wright, of Riverton.
