DENOUNCES LEY’S VISIT.
Protest against* the presence in England of Dr Robert Ley,' head of the Nazi “Strength through joy” meat, was. made in a> letter sent to the Prime, Minister by Mr Herbert H. Elvin. Writing' as chairman of the British Workers’ Sports Association, Mr Elvin expresses surprise that Dr Ley was to be received by the King and the Premier. “I am sure,” he says. “that every trade unionist will look upon this as an insult to them.
“One cannot forget how Herr Hitler a-ncl his Government exploited both the last Olympic Games and the last conference of the Advisory Committee on Recreation for political purposes, and at the Olympic Games refused to sliake hands with Jesse Owens (the United States Negro sprinter) after he had won the world’s sprint championship.”
