ROWING

OFFICIAL OPENING OF RIVERTON CLUB. Notwithstanding the boisterous weather there was a good attendance of membeis at the opening of the boating season oil Wednesday. In the unavoidable absence of Dr Trotter, Mr Wm. Smyth in a few well chosen remarks declared the season opened. Nil- Smyth referred to Dr Trotter’s long association as president of the Club. He bad at all times encouraged the rowers, and had given practical assistance towards tlie funds of the Club. The members would rejoice that Di Trotter bad now recovered from his recent illness, and the hope was expressed that ho would be spared many years to fulfil the position of president to the Club. Mr Smyth in congratulating the members on their past performances, trusted that the Club would continue to prosper. They had a splendid plant, and he felt sure tho members would gain additional honors for the Club. Afternoon tea was then jiartaken of, and a crew manned one of the boats for a spin on the estuary.
