WHO ARE THE BEEFEATERS?
Wh 0 me the Beefeater*? Visitor* to Loudon are always asking that question. Most people think they are the Yeomen of the Guard. But the Yeomen of the Guard were indignant when a 'Sunday Express' representative tackled them about it. "We are not Reefeaters," said an official, "either by name or nickname. You must bo thinking of the Yeomen \\ r arders of the Tower of Loudon." But the Yeomen "Warders say they are not "Beefeaters" cither. "Many people call us 'Beefeaters,' " said au official at the Tower, "but they are wrong." The "Encyclopaedia Britannica' says.. Beefenters is a nickname for the Yeomen of the Guard. The 'Concise Oxford Dictionary' says it is a nickname both for them' and the Yeomen "Warders of the Tower
