WALLACE COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of tile Council held on Friday was attended by Crs W. T. James (chairman); F. J. Linscott, W, J. A. McGregor, W. B. Hopcroft, H. F. Blatch, G, Stroud, J. Ht. Smith, D. Teviotdale and B. Horrell. —Correspondence.— G. Printz, lluahinc, asked to have definite assurance; as to when the •work on his road will be started. — Bent to be applied for. R. Harding, junr., Round Hill, applied for right to lay a tramway across the new road at Round HiJl for gold mining purposes.—Referred to Public Works Department. The Secretary, Waiau Welfare League notified that in conjunction with the business people of Tuatapere it intends, installing 15 street lights at an estimated cost of £75 which will be borne by the committee. The annual cost of lighting is estimated at £ls. For the annual cost the committee desire the fav ourable consideration of the Council. — Members to conferred with the League at next meeting; Vi Neilson, Round Hill, asked if the Council will allow him half cost of cutting th e scrub on roadside along his boundary.—Request declined. W. F. Webb, Invercargill, asked to have the sewerage drain cut by the Council through his sections at Bile. 2, Survey District, Longwood, piped on account of carrying sewerage.— Left to Engineer. E. M. Guise, Gropers Bush, asked that th© lower culvert on Forde’s road adjoining Sec. 6 Blk 8, J.R.H. be lowered to give him outfall.—Granted. C. W. Carran, Waipango, applied for permssion to plant macrocarpa trees along his ■ roadline fence.— Left to Member and Engineer.

Ja«e G. Laurie and M. J. Broomhall, Tihaka, requested that a roadline ba formed between Sections 19 and 20 to give them . access to main road.— Left to Member and, Engineer.C. C. McLeish, Gladfield, asked for permission to carry a- drain across Lindsay Williams road.—Granted.

Th© Inspector of Health, Invercargill, recommended that Messrs C. Gardner, S. J. Sanford and A, E. Milne be appointed as trustees for Clifden Cemetery Trust. Appointment confirmed.

The Southland Electric Power Board notified that the following resolution was adopted by th© Board : “That the Wallace County Council b© appointed to make an application for a grant for repairs to the Monowai river bridge and that a special letter be sent from the Board to the Hon A. Hamilton asking him' to give assistance in support of the application.”—Application to be made for Government grants. Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote in regard to access .being given to Mrs A C. Williams’ section 4, Blk. 111, Lillbuni S.D. —Writer to be informed that weather conditions prevented work being done.

C. Chamberlain, Tuatapere, requested permission to erect a petrol pump on kerbside of footpath at Tuatapere.— Granted.

If. H. Owen, Otahu, stated that road leading into his property is in a bad state and would the County grant him a few pounds towards fixing it. — Left to Member and Engineer. Jas Yalli, Wairio, asked to be given outfall on Wreys Bush road.— Granted.

The Secretary N.Z. Farmers’ Union, Mossburn branch, drew attention to the number of stray cattle on the roads in and about Mossburn.—Ranger to be ap-' pointed. The Automobile Association, Invercargill, drew attention to the dangerous angle at which the bridge is constructed on the Weydon stream between Centre Hill . Station and Gorge Hill.— Applications in this direction have been made to' the Highways Board _
