BEAR KILLS BOY.

MADDENED BY HUNGER. A supposedly tame bear at a roadside inn near New York snapped her chains and crushed to death an 11-year-old boy avlio had tossed her an apple. State police said the bear's owner had been away two days on a fishing trip and the animal was maddened by hunger. ' - . The victim,*'Grant Taylor, and another boy were on their way to school '■ when they passed the inn near Brookhaven. As the animal lunged forward to : catch the apple tossed by Taylor the chain broke and the bear continued after the boy. The youth tried to hide behind a tree,* t but the bear threw her front legs about the tree and the boy's body.

When the animal had been killed fi>d the boy released, the latter was found to be-already dead, his neck having been broken. .
