CAFE CHANTANT

As the name implies, there’ will be a programme of instrumental and vocal music at the Cafe Chantant in the Empire Theatre on Friday afternoon. In the-evening at 8 p.m. sharp the operetta ‘Captain Soot and the Fames, will be staged. Nancy Wilson is the Fairy Queen and possesses a sweet singing voice and good stage presence. Graham Wilson as the Court Jester, looks and sustains ' the part well. Trevor de Clifford makes a very effective Captain Soot, and, with his band of black rascals fills an important role. Other characters are Court Butter fly dancer, Miss A. Playfair, Court Physician,’ Stewart More: ‘Physicians Scribe.’ Beryl Pascoe; ‘Queen’s Chancellor,’ Joan/ Walden ; ‘Lady Soapsuds.’ Veta de Clifford; ‘Lord Bootlace,’ Cyril Cunningham; ‘Lady Hairbrush,’ Lena Richardson ; and last, but not least, tlie Queen’s train-bearers. Ruth Wilson, and Dorothy Webb. The stage setting is to be a feature of the operetta and the general effect will be beautiful.

The following are the stall holders:— Work Stall Mesclames Gordon and Stevenson and Miss Gordon; Cake Stall, Mrs Walden and Miss Trotter; Sweets Mrs Trotter; Jumble Stall', Misses O'. Trotter and A. Banks; Produce, Mrs Hancock and Miss Robinson ; Xmas Tree, Mesdames Jordan, Anderson, and Miss Price. Cafe, Mrs de Clifford and assistants. Treasurer, Mrs Grant, Gifts may be left day of Cafe at Theatre.
