SAMUEL MARSDEN.

CENTENARY. CELEBRATIONS. SYDNEY, September 14. There was a lurgc gathering at the pilgrimage to Samuel Marsden's tomb in St. John's Cemetery, Parramatta, in connection with the Church Mission Society's j>ntenary celebrations. Bishop Taylor Smith, of South Africa, in the course of an address, said that no arithmetic had s yet been written that could truly estimate the value' of a good man. Samuel Marsden was great because he was a good man. His greatest work was his pioneering missionary work in New Zealand. Dr Marsden, from being a man of purpose became a man of power. Nothing daunted, hiin; difficulties only drove him nearer to God."
