BIRCHWOOD HUNT.
The following details will be of utmost to the himtmg community. The Hunt was first started on May 26th 1866 and‘was then known as the Wallace Hunt Club. The first committee consisted, of Capt. Gardner (Chairman), Messrs Edridge, F. Sutton, \V. Marris, T. W. Bridge, F. Woodward (Treasurer), J Lyle (Secretary). Mr Edward Sanders was appointed huntsman tit £76 to hunt 72 couples of hounds. The fee for a meet outside the Wallace boundary was £lO. In 1888 Mr Jas Ritchie was appointed chairman, and in 1889 Capt. Gardner took over the hounds and they were hunted as a 2>rivato pack for seven years, with Mr Carnegie Gardner as huntsman. In 1896 Capt. Gardner presented, tho hounds to the presentdub. AH of the • members with the exception of J. W. ■Bridge of the first committee have passed over the divide and to these pioneers, the- hunting men of to-day owe a debt of gratitude, -A
