OTAUTAU TOWN BOARD.
The first monthly meeting of the new Board was held in the Board Room on Monday evening, there being present, Messrs G. H. Stevens, Robt. Seatter, R. B. Collett, L. Lutaedlen, W. Collett, Geo. Bates, and McNeil. Mr G. H Stevens moved that Mir McNeil be appointed Chairman.— Seconded by Mr R. B. Collett.—Mr McNeil declined the position. Mr Lumsden moved, and Mr McNeil seconded, that Mr Robt. Scatter he appointed to the position. It was moved by Mir R. B. Collett, and seconded by Mr Geo. Bate?, that Mr G. H. Stevens be appointed.—Mr Stevens declined nomination. Mr Seatter returned thanks for the honour, and said that he would do his best for the ratepayers and the members, of the Board.
Secretary, Wallace Hospital and O.A. Board referred the Board to the Health Department, Wellington, with, reference to urn belonging to Tennis Club, which had been' sold.—Clerk ■to apply to Health Department. Defence Department, Dunedin, informed the Board that war trophies would be allotted at the end of this month.—Received.
Wallace Qonnty Council informed the Board that the matter of a crossing for Mr McKenzie had been referred to the Member for the Riding and': the Engineer.—Received. A. Eraser, lamplighter, asked the Board to procure a shed for storing kerosene.—Left to Chairman to arrange and to secure a stock of petrol. -f
F. J. Best wrote with regard to willow branches, which had been left in Queen street, and which, were beginning to grow.—Received.
j District Manager, Public Trust Office, offered to Rase the office in the Town Hall at a rental of 15/- per week. Lease to be monthly.—Decided! that the lease be accepted quarterly. Messrs Rout and Stewart, on behalf of Mrs Gardner, forwarded notice that they would accept £35 goodwill for memorial section, between half and quarter-acre in main street, near bridge.—Accepted. It was decided zo ask the Wallace County Council to survey the section as a contribution to the memorial. Juo. Fisher asked for outfall from Joyce’s property for drainage.— Granted.
A. W. Rodger, Chairman Southland Electric Power Board forwarded particulars with reference to the supply of electric light from the Monowai scheme.—lt was decided that the power be purchased in bulk, and that the Board purchase their requirements in connection with reticulation from the Power Board. \ The Chairman ,Treasurer and Mr R. B. Collett were appointed signing officers for the Board.
The following Committees were appointed :—Works Committee: Chairman and Messrs Stevens andl Bates. Building Permits Committee: Chairman and Messrs Stevens and Bates-
Accounts amounting to £lB5 7s 7d were passed for payment. C. Sutherland asked for £250, progress payment on pavilion.—Decided to hand over £IOO from Progressive League and l Football Club, and pay £IOO provided by the Board.
It was decided that the matter of re-decking the main street bridge he considered at next meeting, and that quotations for supply of timber be obtained immediately. : u
