COMMERCIAL.

SOUTHLAND STOCK AND PRODUCE MARKET. The stock market during the week has shown a tendency considerably easier. There has ‘been a large number of both fat cattle and faf (sheep coming forward, and wethers in some instances have been hack as much as 3/- per head. The store cattle market is brighter than it has been for some time and a noticeable inquiry has sprung up for 2, 3 and 4-year-old bullocks.. Yearlings and 18-mouths’ old cattle have been selling well. There has been an exceptionally large number of, dairy cows coming forward, and prices are back about £5 per head. \ Good 4,6, and 8-tooth ewes in lamb have been slightly easier, but a little inquiry is now noticeable as farmers are beginning, to fill their requirements. The prides 'for hoggets have hardened slightly, and .if the wool market improves this might he the best class of sheep to shear. - Quite a. number of forward sales for delivery in March and April have been made lately at 20/- for m.s. lambs and ewes at -from 26/- to 28/6-

Oats. —The wholesale market is inclined to 'be easier. Sales were made at 4/9, f.o.b.s.i. for.B Gartens, but the market has eased to 4/8, if not lower. So far as holders heir© nrcf concerned, they arq looking on, as even 4/9 was not tempting enough to take.

Chaff.—The market is finnii, and up to £7 10/-, on trucks, has been paid for, prime quality. It certainly looks as if the market will keepi firm for the rest of 'the season. Potatoes. The market is very quiet, and buyers jure operating only from hand to mouth. Sot far it looks as if no export to Australia will be possible this season. To date permission to export has not been received, audit will soon be too late.

Ryegrass. —The market is quiet, but stocks'" are moving off steadily especially in retail lots for Spring sowing. Hemp.—There is some inquiry, but prices are still not very tempting. Low-fair is worth about on trucks, . and high-fair about £33, on trucks. ‘ /

Fruit. —-Apples : Supplies have shown a considerable decrease, and prices have "’firmed.” Choice dessert are gelling, at from 10/- to 14/- per case, according to variety. Cooking Apples : Prime quality from 7/6 to 8/6 per ca'se; B grade from 6/6 to 7/6; C grade, 5/6 fb G/6 per case; Poorraan oranges, 5/- per box, 15/- per case. Vegetables.—Cabbage scarce; swedes 4/- to 4/6 per sack; carrots, 6/6 per cwt, and 4/- per small hag for “table” quality. Parsnips, 2cT lb. • Lepp Salt Lick.—Keeps the Cattle in tip-top condition.
