RIVERTON GOLF CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Riverton Golf Club was held on Friday evening last, there being a moderate attendance, the President, Mr A. E. Willett, being in the chair. The Secretary, Mr W. A. Mansell, submitted the following report : —The balance-sheet shows the receipts to be £27 10s Bd. and: this includes a credit balance of £4 17s 8d brought forward from 1918. Expenses amounted to £24 3s 6d, thus leaving a credit balance of £3 7a 3d. The number of members on the roll is 38, compared with 39 for the preceding season. Five matches were played with the Invercargill Park Club—-two ladies’ matches and three by the men; the ladies won -one match by four games, while the second match finished all square ; the men lost two games, and drew the third. In connection with the ladies’ match, we have to thank Mr Masters for a trophy which was won by Miss M. Robinson. Six mixed foursomes were played during the season, aud, thanks to the very excellent handicapping of Mr Willett, close finishes resulted. The men’s bogey match was won by Mr Gifford, aud Messrs Berndtson, Willett and Mansell each won a. medal match. Ladies’ medal matches were won by Misses Southberg and Stevens. These two ladies also tied for first place in the ladies’ bogie matche. both finishing 2 down. The driving, approaching and putting competitions for ladies were won by Miss Collins, Mrs Willett and Mrs Gordon, respectively, Messrs Buddie, Willett and Barrett being the winners of similar competitions for, men. The chaimpionship matches were keenly contested. In winning the final round of the' ladies’ championship from Miss Southberg, Miss Colling claimed her third championship win n and the champion cup thus becomes her own property. Miss Stevens won the ladies’ B grade championship. The men’s championship was won by Mr Gifford, whose consistent good play throughout the season merited the honour of champion. We have to thank Mr Willett for the- very handsome cup presented for this competition. Mr Melvin won the B grade competition, Mr Philp being runnerup. It is interesting aud pleasing to note that the winners in the various competitions for men included ten different players, while lady winners were two less. It has been suggested that a verandah be added to the club house, and, if possible, a. coat of paint, and, it is hoped the incoming committee will give the matter favourable consideration. .The Tennis Club use the club house as much as the Golf Club, and it is passible this club may give financial assistance. The Glreens Committee would be grateful if the lacftes would not play in high-heeled boots or shoes. The Club lost a sincere friend in the death of Miss MeNaughtou, and we wish to tender our sympathy to the relatives, and express our gratitude for the many kindly considerations we have had from the deceased lady. Our usual, though none the less sincere, thanks are accorded the ladies for providing afternoon tea during the season. We also wish to thank owners and tenants for use of properties through which the golf course runs, also to the Press for their assistance. Finally, we appreciate assistance from various members who have helped during the season, and ask, on behalf of the incoming committee the same encouraging support. The Chairman formally moved the adoption of the report and balancesheet, which, he said, showed the Club to be in. a good financial position.— Seconded by Mr Gifford, and carried unanimously. The following were elected officebearers for the ensuing year: Presrdent, Mr Philp; Captain, Mr Instone;' Secretary, Mr Mansell; Treasurer, Mr Scobie; Auditor, Mr Barrett; , Committee: Messrs Gifford, Berndtson, Willett, Barrett, and Buddie. The subscription was fixed at £1 ter men and 10/- for ladies- Provision will be made out of the increased subscription to erect a verandah to the golf house'. It was resolved to open, the season On Wednesday next, 28th inst., with a mixed foursome. On the motion of Dr. Gordon, seconded by Mr Scobie, a hearty vote of thanks was accordled the ladies for providing afternoon tea. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the property owners who gave the use of their ground, and the Aparima Bowling, Club for the use of their roller.
