GOLF.

■' The final round for the mens’ championship was played) ou Wednesday between Gifford (last year’s champion) and Willett. Play commenced somewhat sensationally, Gifford taking the first hole in 2, and following this up with a 5 and 4 for the next two, as against Willett’s 4,7, and s—Gifford three up. This unpromising start did not discourage Willett, whose characteristic ability to “ stick it ” under adverse circumstances was proved when, he won the next hole, though 6 and 7 was not brilliant —Gifford two. up. The fifth hole was halved, and Willett, showing lunch improved play, took tho next two holes, making' the game all square. The eighth was halved, and with ,ai win at the ninth Willett finished the first round with one up. The second round started with a, half for the first hole. Willett won the next, •and played a bad hole at “ Sandridge,” Gifford winning his first hole since his opening trio at the commencement. Not to be denied, Willett halved with bogey, and a von the fourth, being two up. Gifford then gave a. of his brilliance by holing tho next in four, reducing his deficit to one down. The sixth and seventh were halved. Owing to a bad drive by Gifford, Willett bad a good advantage, but lost it on tbe ground—Willett one up and two to go. Two. good; drives. and approaches finished on, the green, Willett being the nearer. Gifford putting down hill overran the hole, which cost him two more to put out, Willett thus winning with 2up and) Ito play. Willett’s driving and mid-iron play was consistently good, and compensated for any shortcomings in his short play. Gifford was decidedly off his play, his. approaches being failures, while some of his drives were missed, which, is not usual. Both players took 48 for the first round, Gifford 49, and Willett 41 for eight holes in the second round. The championship for B grade went to Barret by default. Last week be easily defeated E. Harrison.

In tho second round) of the ladies’ l.uimpionsliip Miss Robinson beat Mrs

Berudt&oin, two up and 1 toi play, and Miss Collins defeated) Mrs Willett. The final will be played between Miss Robinson and Miss Collins.
