COMMERCIAL.

SOUTHLAND STOCK AND PRODUCE MARKET. During the last week the weather has been more satisfactory, though the position of the stock market remains practically unchanged, very little stock changing hands. There 1 is a fair demand for turnips, but very few are offering, and faitoeilsi have barely enough if or their requirements. Fat Cattle. —The market for this class has not been too good, and the few that came forward were of medium quality, butchers for the most part being the buyers. Extra prime fat bullocks made from £lB to £2l; fat cows from £9 to £lO 2/6. Store Cattle.—A fairly large number of store cattle, consisting mainly of dairy cows, have been on the market this week, but the demand for them has been small. The quality also was very medium. Prices throughout have fallen back from £1 to £1 10/- per head on last week. Extra, prime dairy cows made from £l6 to £lB 5/-; extra prime heifers made from £7 to £lO 5/-. Fat Sheep.—Fewer fat .sheep have been on the market this week, but the quality of animal that came forward was very good. Prices were slightly better for the week, and at Wallactown on Tuesday a record price for some years was reached, when, a pen of wethers was sold for 54/-. Extra prime wethers made from 39/ta 54/-; prime from 36/6 to 38/9; extra prime ewes, 37/9 to 38/3; prime from 30/10 to 36/9.

Store Sheep.—Very little enquiry has been made- for this class during the past week, and prices were about the same as the previous week, namely : Good hoggets hx.s. from 25/6 to 28,-j good four-toothed ewes- from 36/6 to 38/9; good two and, four-tooth wethers, 34/6 to 36/8. Oats.—The market is very firm, hut there are very few oats offering from the country. Any that are offering well Id find a ready market at 4/8 to 4-9, on trucks. Local merchants are now asking 5/4 for immediate delivery, t.0.b.-s.f., and up to 5/6 for forward delivery. Chaff. —The market has a firmer tone, but there is very little prime chaff offering. For best quality £6 5/-, on trucks, is procurable, but less money would have to bo taken for discoloured and light samples.

EXCHANGE SALE ROOMS'. McKay Bros, report; Poultry.—Good demand at high prices. Pigs.—Suckers, 15/- to 17/-; wen tiers, to 26/-. Baconcrs and porkers.— We are giving highest cash prices for these at country stations or delivered at mart. It will pay breeders to, consult us, our demiand being practically unlimited. Produce.—Potatoes, prime, to £l3; others lower. Onions (Victorian), £35; Canterbury, 30/- cwt. Pollard, 18/-. Bran, 10/6. Oat-dust, 6/-. Wheat, 26/6. Oats, 19/- tot 22/-. Straw, 4/-. Hay, 3/6 bale. Parsnips, 3/6 small bags. Chaff, 7 40/-. Cocksfoot.—We have a line at- exceptionally low rates aiulr invite enquiry. Mutton-birds. —Prime salt, 6/- dozen in boxes of 6 and 42; also, (scaled tins, containing 3 dozen. Fruit. —Very large supplies received during the week from Otago Central, Nelson, and; Canterbury districts. Apples (dessert), 10/6 to 13/6; cookers, L. Wofsley, 9/6 to 10/6; Hymens', 9/to 10/6; pears, 12/- case; 6/- 7/- box. Mandarins, 22/G to 26/-. Oranges (Sydney), 21/- to 24/-; Adelaide, 24/to 26/-. Lemons, 21/-. Pines, 21/- to 23/-. Bananas, 25/- case. Island oranges, 27/6. A largo- shipment of bananas due next week. General. —Second-hand iron and timber. G.c.. tanks. All in good demand. We have- special facilities for handling these lines. Furniture of latest design, at attractive prices, in our showrooms-. Honey, 6/- and 8/G tin. Tea, 10/6 and 20/-. A few cow-covers left, 18/6.
